REVIEW OF WORK - WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

So looking at my current progress in this project it is clear that I have a lot of work to do, I have decided on creating an interactive immersive series of gym products that enhance the experience of a fitness session or workout, to have this completed I have decided on:
  • Create a 3D or 2D design of one to three gym products (probably the treadmill, rowing machine and underwater goggles).
  • This would involve having an animation explaining the setup of the interactive product which would be installed into gyms.
  • A flash based design of the interface(s) of each product, explaining the new and improved levels of control and how the user can select not only the difficulty of the workout, but the environment they workout in and more.
  • Create a manual for the product(s).
  • Create the 500 word reasoning behind the interactive product and project.
Along with this I also need to back up my ideas and explain the main influences towards this project, this will be included in the 500 word evaluation of the project.

Other issues such as Usability and Disability and Proposed Cost of Product(s) will also be established.

Hi Dan,

Good work. Something that struck me was how goal-oriented most gym sessions are, and I wondered if you could use this idea in creating the interactive scenarios for your machines. Create some goal-movies (chasing someone around a city on the running machine?) and modify them according to the input.

I think the reason a lot of people don't go to the gym, or give up, is this lack of cerebral and experiential engagement that you might get when doing a sport outside - mountainbiking, for instance. Put some of that into the gym equipment using videos and interactive actions like the ones you make using a wii remote, and you'd increase engagement and probably get more ppl in the gym...maybe!

I too chose a final idea that I couldn't make in full, and wrote myself a list of almost the exact same deliverables, ultimately though I decided to drop the animation idea because building the Flash interafce for my installation and getting it fully functional took up alot of my time, and I decided to focus my time on making it function exactly as it would in the installation. I ended up doing alot of illustatrins to go in my screen based guide to it, which included a manusal on how to set up. I am still considering creating the animation at the end, but only if I have the tie without harming the quality of my other deliverable, so just wanted to suggest, if you are doing all the above for several products, perhaps you should create all the most important deliverables first for each one, and then go on to lesser ones, so you don't run out of time. E.g, create teh interface for product a, then product b, then product c, then teh manual for product a, product b, product c, ect. Or maybe you should consider choosing just one product? There isn't much time left and you should probably work out whats most important so you can get it done in time, as it sounds like your taking on alot.
